Bharath University
Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was established in 1984 under the Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust, becoming the first self-financing engineering college in Tamil Nadu, founded by Dr. S. Jagathrakshakan. The trust later expanded to include Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, which was recognized as a Deemed to be University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) in July 2002. This recognition was granted under Section 3 of the UGC Act of 1956. Over the years, BIST and its associated institutions were incorporated into the Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER).
