OVERVIEW
Located in Dharan, Sunsari District, Nepal, BPKIHS was established on January 18, 1993, and became an autonomous health sciences university on October 28, 1998. Named after the late Vishweshwar Prasad Koirala, a former Prime Minister of Nepal, the institute embodies a mission to meet the healthcare needs of Nepal’s eastern region and beyond. The university operates a 700-bed teaching hospital and offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various fields of health sciences. BPKIHS is organized into four colleges: the Faculty of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Dental Surgery, and Community Medicine. These colleges are equipped with modern facilities, including intensive care units, coronary care units, MRI and CT scan facilities, and specialized labs. The university’s MBBS program, which started in 1993, is recognized by the World Directory of Medical Schools and is highly regarded for its rigorous curriculum and clinical training.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for admission to Birat Medical College, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Age Requirement: The candidate must be at least 17 years old by December 31st of the year of admission.
Educational Qualifications: Applicants must have completed their higher secondary education (10+2) or equivalent with a focus on science subjects. Specifically, candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, and must have obtained a minimum aggregate score of 50% in these subjects.
NEET Qualification: Indian students must qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) as it is a mandatory requirement for admission to medical colleges in Nepal. A valid NEET score is essential for consideration during the admission process.
Entrance Exam: In addition to NEET, applicants may be required to take an entrance examination conducted by Kathmandu University. The exam typically covers subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
