Oriental University, Indore (OUI) was established in 2011 under the auspices of the Devi Shakuntala Thakral Charitable Foundation. Since 1995, the Oriental Group has been a prominent name in education, with various reputable institutions located across Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur.

As the first private university in Indore, Oriental University was conferred university status under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, from May 2011 onwards.
