RIT Roorkee
RIT Roorkee, located along the Ganges canal on the national highway connecting Delhi and Dehradun, is situated in one of India’s oldest cantonments and the headquarters of the Bengal Engineer Group since 1853. This historical city is renowned for its contribution to technical education, having hosted the first engineering college in India in 1847.
Roorkee is famously home to the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT), which was formerly known as the University of Roorkee, previously the Thomson College of Civil Engineering. Notably, the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, began its journey here before relocating to Chandigarh in 1954.
In addition to its educational institutions, Roorkee is surrounded by several government research organizations, including the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Irrigation Research Institute (IRI), and National Institute of Hydrology (NIH).
