UPL University of Sustainable Technology – Overview

UPL University of Sustainable Technology was established under the Gujarat Private University Act, 2009 (amended by Gujarat Act No.15 of 2021) and came into effect on June 1, 2021. It is officially empowered to grant degrees as per Section 22 of the UGC Act of 1956.

The university was founded by the Ankleshwar Rotary Education Society (ARES), with the aim of positioning Gujarat and India as leading global education hubs. The institution began its journey in 2011 as the Shroff S.R. Rotary Institute of Chemical Technology (SRICT), offering undergraduate courses in engineering, in affiliation with Gujarat Technological University (GTU) and approval from AICTE, New Delhi. In addition, two specialized industry-focused programs were introduced: Chemical Technology with four specializations—Pharmaceutical Technology, Dyes & Pigments Technology, Polymer & Rubber Technology, and Glass & Ceramic Technology—and Environmental Science & Technology. These programs uniquely integrate Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and specialized technology subjects.

In 2015, the institution expanded its academic offerings by introducing postgraduate programs in Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, followed by an M.Sc. program in Organic Chemistry in 2018 and a PG course in Environmental Management in 2020. By 2021, the university further diversified its offerings, introducing diploma-level programs in Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering, alongside a B.E. program in Computer Engineering.

For the academic year 2022-23, the university will offer new programs, including a Diploma in Information Technology, a Master’s in Electrical Engineering, and a B.Sc. in Microbiology. Full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Physics, and English are also available from 2022, encouraging interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research.

Academic Strengths and Industry Connections

The university is known for its excellent teaching methods, strong industry connections, and outstanding job placement rates for all eligible students. It is also recognized for its research and consultancy services in environmental projects. The university offers specialized services such as Environmental Audits, Energy Audits, 5S Workplace Management, Research & Development, and customized training programs for industries.

SRICT has an accredited environmental lab and offers NAAC-accredited programs, including B.E. in Chemical Engineering, B.E. in Environmental Science & Technology, and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering. In 2021 and 2022, SRICT received a 4-star rating from the Gujarat State Institutional Ranking Framework (GSIRF).
